Hot Rolled Hex Bar
Hot rolled steel refers to a steel-rolling process in which flat steel is rolled at extremely high temperatures that exceed the recrystallization temperature. This makes the steel more malleable and easier to form and shape. Once heated and molded, hot rolled steel is cooled at room temperature. While this gives the finished product looser tolerances than the original material, it also makes the product free from internal stresses that may occur during heat-treatment processes such as quenching and the work-hardening process. Finally, steel shrinks slightly as it cools and so there is less control over its final shape. Thus, hot-rolled steel can vary in dimensional consistency and have rougher edges than cold-rolled steel.
Hot Rolled Hex Bar Applications:
Hot rolled hex steel bars are long, hexagon-shaped (six-sided) rods or bars. Because they are excellent weight-bearing bars, they are useful in construction industries. Hex steel bars are also used to fabricate other structural support materials, including I, H, and C beams.
They are also highly machinable and suitable for component-producing applications, because hex bars fill a plane with equal size units and leaves no wasted space. Because they are easy to drill and form, hex steel bars are commonly used in ornamental and interior works.
Hot rolled hex steel bars will have slightly rounded edges and corners with strength and ductility suited for a variety of fabrication processes, including welding, bending, forming, and machining. They are used in a variety of industries, including:
Construction, General Fabrication, Automotive, Power Generation, Food Processing, Aerospace, Chemical Processing, Marine, Medical, Oil and Gas
Advantages:
Hot rolled steel typically requires much less processing than cold rolled steel, which makes it a lot less expensive. Also, it is often manufactured without pauses or delays in the process, so the steel does not need to be reheated. Because such high temperatures are used during the rolling process, hot rolled steel is more malleable. It can be cut or formed into nearly any shape needed, unlike cold rolled steel. In general, projects using hot rolled steel take much less time than those with cold rolled steel, because of its ease of manipulation.
Hot
rolled steel is ideal in applications where dimensional tolerances are not as
important as overall material strength, and where surface finish is not a major
concern. Even if surface finish is a concern, scaling can be removed, and
various brush or mirror finishes can also be applied. Descaled hot rolled steel
also offers a better surface for painting and other surface coatings.
