What is the function of the railway sleeper?

Sleeper also can be called crosstie, wooden sleeper, preservatively-treated sleeper, it is sometimes referred to a sleeper made from other materials, it’s a kind of material that used for railway, dedicatede rail, laid walking equipment, cushion of bearing equipment.

Characteristic:

Good resilience, light weight, make simple, good insulation performance. The fastener is easy to connect with the wooden sleeper, laying and maintenance, convenient transportation, there is large friction coefficient between the wood sleeper and ballast. But the disadvantage is that the use of life is short, the consumption of wood is large. In order to prolong the service life, the sleeper must be used after being embalmed.

Railway sleeper classification:

Common sleeper, common sleeper used for the main railway line.

Track switch sleeper, used for the track switch area of railway interchange.

Bridge sleeper, it is used for the paving of bridge of railway steel structure bridge equipment.

The rail sleeper should support the steel rail and keep the position of the rail, and then transfer the great pressure of the rail to the dais. It must be flexible and elastic, hard is not allowed and soft is also not allowed. When the train pass, it can be properly deformed to cushion the pressure, but it has to be restored as soon as possible after the train passed.
