The ballast can be used to solve the axle weight of the vehicle greater than 15t and to travel at a similar low speed, the corrugated abrasion of the rail is developed from the rail joint or the rail seam, it’s mostly outside the curve, the wavelength is 200-300mm.

The rail weight is less than 50kg/m, start from the rail joint or the welded joint to form a 500- 1500 mm waveform wear. Some literatures believe that this kind of waveform abrasion is caused by the unsmooth waviness of the steel rail, use the ballast can removed it.
