Cold Drawn Square Bar

Cold drawn steel is ideal for long products, like shafting and structural parts, as well as consumer products that require an aesthetic finish. The pressure required to make cold drawn steel increases tensile and yield strength and results in a smooth, polished finish. Cold drawn steel does not change shape during processing, so the finished product has dimensional consistency and improved straightness. Not only does this process enhance the physical properties of the steel bar, it also improves the dimensional tolerances, straightness, and surface appearance.

Square Bar Applications:

Square steel bars are known for their hardness, strength, and exceptional wear resistance. These multipurpose steel bars are mainly used for manufacturing and repair. Their sharp corners and excellent mechanical properties make them ideal for multiple applications, including structural, fabrication, manufacturing, and even repairs. Square steel bars are easy to cut and weld, ideal for cold bending and forming applications, and have good machinability and case hardening properties.

Because of its enhanced mechanical properties, tight dimensional tolerances, improved strength and superior finish, cold drawn square bars are used across numerous industries, including:

Automotive, Power Generation, Food Processing, Aerospace, Water Treatment, Chemical Processing, Marine, Medical, Oil and Gas, Construction, Outdoor Furniture.

Common applications of cold drawn square bars include:

Shafts, Axles, Dowels, Slides, Threaded Fixtures, Tooling Blocks, Power tools, Pins, Anchor bolts, Structural parts, Ratchets, Tool holders, Screw machines, CNC lathes, CNC mills, Rotary transfer machining, Hydraulic fittings, Gears, Bushings, Fasteners, Cylinders, Pipe fittings.

Advantages:

The cold-drawn process involves hot rolled bars or hot rolled steel coils being brought down to room temperature. Once the steel reaches room temperature, it is then hammered and rolled to ensure it fits through a die. It is then pulled through the die to reshape it into a thinner shape without altering the volume. Because cold drawn steel does not change shape during processing, the finished product has a predictable thickness and shape. Multiple passes through the die are often required before the steel takes on the desired shape and thickness.
